American Rhetoric: Huey P. Long -- "Every Man a King"

American Rhetoric: Huey P. Long -- "Every Man a King"

We have a home-loan problem because we have too many houses, and yet nobody can buy them and live in them.

We have trouble, my friends, in the country, because we have too much money owing, the greatest indebtedness that has ever been given to civilization, where it has been shown that we are incapable of distributing to the actual things that are here, because the people have not money enough to supply themselves with them, and because the greed of a few men is such that they think it is necessary that they own everything, and their pleasure consists in the starvation of the masses, and in their possessing things they cannot use, and their children cannot use, but who bask in the splendor of sunlight and wealth, casting darkness and despair and impressing it on everyone else.

The Cowbell Project

The Cowbell Project

It's the cymbal's evil third cousin. It's the dark ring that pounds in the back of your brain and lets you know, it's time to rock. The cowbell is an instrument that can't be overused. It should never be underused. Many great rock and roll songs are perfect because the cowbell is used just right.

Evil Bible Quotes

Evil Bible Quotes

"I have wiped out many nations, devastating their fortress walls and towers. Their cities are now deserted; their streets are in silent ruin. There are no survivors to even tell what happened. I thought, 'Surely they will have reverence for me now! Surely they will listen to my warnings, so I won't need to strike again.' But no; however much I punish them, they continue their evil practices from dawn till dusk and dusk till dawn." So now the LORD says: "Be patient; the time is coming soon when I will stand up and accuse these evil nations. For it is my decision to gather together the kingdoms of the earth and pour out my fiercest anger and fury on them. All the earth will be devoured by the fire of my jealousy. "On that day I will purify the lips of all people, so that everyone will be able to worship the LORD together. My scattered people who live beyond the rivers of Ethiopia will come to present their offerings. (Zephaniah 3:6-10 NLT)

United Hollywood: Monday Morning Links

United Hollywood: Monday Morning Links

- Garth Brooks Rocks
The best-selling solo music artist in US history refused to cross picket lines and appear on "The View" or "Ellen" last week to promote his album. Reports cited this quote from Brooks' publicist: "Garth is proud of the position he has taken since he hopes to be a writer in the not too distant future."
Garth, I'll bet you now have several thousand writers who will happily look at drafts for you. Thanks for your support.

what I think the powers that be don't realize is that this could make the hoi polloi rethink the value of unions altogether...
a good organizer could turn this into a union windfall.

I'm currently reading "Wobblies! A graphic history of the Industrial Workers of the World". 3 out of 5 people I that I told I was reading about the Wobblies asked, "Who?" and one said, "I think I've heard a couple of their songs." These are not stupid people and they are I would say more class conscious than most Americans, but still they'd never heard of the Wobblies...
makes me sad.

spam posts

there is an option with blogger to post by e-mail.
I have this enabled.
I have had people accidentally e-mail the blog,
but recently I've actually started getting spam
posted directly to the blog.
I have changed the e-mail address
so hopefully it won't happen again.
