ex-lion tamer

ex-lion tamer: "anarchist communitarianism is a lot of fun to fantasize about and practice as much as possible in one's personal life, but when you live in a culture pretty much crowded by people intoxicated by sex, drugs, violence and the latest fashion and technological gadgetry, the only hope for any kind of awakening is some serious, serious pain."

I picked that cause I liked it...but damn!
go read the whole thing...
it makes sense and it works.
but the question is, how does a misanthrope like me get involved in the community infrastructure?

Religion, Karl Marx's "opium of the people" has been replaced, for many, by opium. That is to say, the capitalist power structure has become extraordinarily adept at anesthetizing the masses with a steady stream of television, blockbuster action films, video games, spectacle sports, pornography, and, of course, drugs (and by drugs, I mean the lucrative depression/adhd/anxiety market currently being exploited heavily by big pharma). Who can tell that they're miserable when there are so many distractions? When their misery is only seen in terms of individual medical problems? Life sucks in corporate America, but my Gameboy is so fun. Pass the Prozac.

All this, and religion is still "the opium of the people." In America, anyway.

Really, how can there be any serious organizing at all under these circumstancs?
