The Washington Monthly

The Washington Monthly:
"If an explicit statement that the authority of the United States government is derived from God isn't a violation of the establishment clause, then what is? Does the First Amendment have any meaning left at all?"

If the authority of the United Stated gov't is derived from God, and God doesn't exist well then it sounds like maybe we've actually got that whole "freedom" thing they keep talking about all worked out. I mean if I don't recognize the authority of God and the gov't authorities stems from his well then I'm pretty much free to ignore theirs too, right?
