o.k.
I'm just gonna keep writing for a while tonight,
and seeing what comes out...
Of all the pieces I've only half finished,
the one that I think is the most worthwhile
would require weeks of workshops and someone
over me with a lot more experience than I have doing
these things...
it's about cell phones,
and so much of the dialogue is abitrary
as long as certain points are hit
that it only makes sense
to let the actors have a hand
in setting the language...
or is that a cop out?
Right now
I'm not
doing the work
required of me,
in any area.
I keep saying,
"tomorrow,
Monday,
Wednesday,
Friday,
tomorrow..."
I am about as frustrated
in every area of life
as I've ever been...
high school...
college...
any of it.
I have
arachaic notions
of the way
things
are supposed
to go
If you ever wonder
what I'm thinking
assume the worst...
if you want to know for sure,
slap me...
if I don't ask,
"what was that for?"
you'll know you were right.
I don't claim
to understand
any of this.
I'm just
pretty sure
that this ain't
the way
it's s'posed
to go.
I have
no killer
instinct.
could never
be a salesman.
it's either
all the same thing
or it's
all nothing.
how
do you
sell that?
I'm not saying
it's all hell
in fact
in spite
of it all
I enjoy myself
quite a bit
drinking
dancing
playing
smoking
eating
thinking
(ah thinking
there's a double-edge
if'n there ever was one,
I mean, really,
don't you just wish
sometimes
that it'd stop
all of it
the words
and all their permutations
just dancin
around yr noggin'?
I know I do
and sometimes
I suppose it does
when I'm dancin'
or engaging
in the sort
of activity
that footloose
says that
dancin' leads to
I reckon
perhaps sometimes
dancin'
might stand
as a substitute
for somethin' else
I don't think
there's much
o' anything
that could stand
as a substitute
for dancin')
I had to waltz
a bit
in the last show
had it in rehearsal
know I did
lost it in performance
pissed me off
everyone else seemed o.k. with it
confusing.
sometimes I think
I'm barely
holding it together
sometimes I think
holding it together
is all I'm doing
the scariest thing I ever heard.
a friend and I.
we're having a conversation.
college.
late.
drunk.
I said,
"I think I'm gettin close to the edge"
he said (and this is it), "There is no edge."
he moved back to Ohio.
became a junkie.
I stayed here and became a pothead.
whatever.
the point.
no edge.
scary.
shouldn't we all be communists by now?
hasn't global capitalism failed yet?
it's failed me.
gotta be a better way than this...
o.k
I guess I should give up
for the night
try to get some sleep
oh yeah,
make an investment
in my future today.
Bought one of them "Job" candles,
and lit it.
I should have a job
by the time
it burns down,
if not before,
and it
was only
99 cents.
so...
still unemployed...
just got my LAST unemployment check...
bummer.
got a job?
preferably one with few hours and a lot of pay?
"Envy The Cockroach" rehearsals are going well...
I just need to get off book. I get to be several variations
on Johnny Asshole this show...
gonna be fun.
I drank a lot of brandy tonight,
thus the previous post...
whoohooo!
uhm,
let's see...
TDU is in flux...
we're trying a new bass player in a week or two,
we'll see how it goes...
The Mathletes (or some variation thereof)
have gigs on Nov 3-5...
and I doubt we'll have a full rehearsal before then.
I think I'm gonna go smoke a j on the porch...
maybe that'll help...
I doubt it.
grrrr...
drunk blogging
so, when yr standing
in the kitchen
with a girl you
were only
so recently
crazy about
and she's
talking about
the new boy
and the girl
yr currenly fighting
being crazy about
has just locked
herself away
with another boy
from the bar
it's time
to down yr drink
and go home
ain't no other truth
about tonight
that's as important
as that

PopMatters My Favorite Thing | From Your First Cigarette to Your Last Dyin' Day: Schlong's Punk Side Story
"However, the Punk Side Story track that represents the greatest improvement over the original is 'Gee, Officer Krupke'. The comedic track -- a bunch of guys joking about their crappy lot in society and the universal detestation of their antics -- ceases to be a joke in Schlong's version, but instead becomes a more sinister expression of rebellion."
I have to agree. It was always my favorite.

Boing Boing: Archie comics discover goth subculture
A recent Archie comic contains a story called "She's Goth to Have It" in which Betty throws off her preppie look for a goth lifestyle of chai-sipping and black-wearing and book-reading.
that's hot.
no, really.
though Veronica would make a better Goth,

Center for Tactical Magic
Center for Tactical Magic:
"Like bees making flowers bloom in the draft of their honey-making prep work, what we beckon forth are the spell-binding endeavors, encrypted and preserved in lost arts and artfulness, that leave behind the sensed effects of exchange and reciprocity, whether between individuals, communities, environments, or other systems of existence. Not a single magic flower, but a garden that nourishes through multiplicity and cumulative effect - this is the shapeshifting art of transformation. This is Tactical Magic."
some very interesting stuff...
It's funny, with the Fitzgerald indictments coming down, and DeLay's mugshot showing up, and Frist under investigation I've been allowing myself to look more and more at conspiracy and various other "nutjob" sites... great stuff...
REAL ART (and politics and culture)
"...the political establishment is stuck in a dynamic such that examination of American citizens-as-workers is all but impossible. That is, there is no public discourse about how people are being continually raked over the coals in terms of their employment or lack thereof. Nobody in polite society even thinks to fault the system. Nobody dares suggest that business' attitude toward workers is unjust, and such a problem might be solved by (gasp!) regulating business."
As usual, Ron gets it.

Wampum: Starting at Center, number 43, from SMU, Harriet Mieeeeeeeers
"Conservatives are getting desperate to find a way out of the Harriet Miers fiasco. Earlier today, I noted Charles Krauthammer’s idea to gin up a dispute over the production of documents in order to find a way for the nomination to be withdrawn while allowing all Republicans to save face.
Rush Limbaugh has an even crazier notion:
My idea is this: The solution to the Harriet Miers issue. The president announce that he's withdrawing her from nomination to the Supreme Court because he's decided to appoint her to succeed Alan Greenspan at the Federal Reserve. He trusts her. She has filled out her own income tax forms all of her life, and she has done her personal banking all of her life. She knows banks, she knows tax reform, tax policy, and the president trusts her, so she could go to the Federal Reserve."
I'm one of those nutjobs that says let's get rid of the Federal Reserve System. However, until we wise up and return to the gold standard Big Boss at the Fed is one of the most important positions in our world. Greenspan becomes more and more hackish all the time, but he is still a smart and powerful hack. This is the stupidest idea I've heard in a long time...
congrats Rush!
Dohiyi Mir: Worse Than 'MMM Bop' - File Under: an example of this blogs motto
"They may remind you another famous pair of singers, the Olsen Twins, and the girls say they like that. But unlike the Olsens, who built a media empire on their fun-loving, squeaky-clean image, Lamb and Lynx are cultivating a much darker personna. They are white nationalists and use their talents to preach a message of hate."

the dolphins
mostly hippie types
what say
the greys are related
to dolphins
I always thought
that was some kind
of crazy hippy talk
like beating
the reptiles with love
then I saw this thing
at the end of the daily show
a moment of zen
with some news ladies
talking about
how listening to dolphins
was good for unborn babies
now I don't know what to think
but even if the greys are related
to the dolphins
I don't think
that necessarily
means they're good people
The Love Bite
"The Love Bite is the title of my recent book 'The Love Bite: Alien Interference in Human Love Relationships'"

Alien Implants and Foreign Bodies
"Once Ms. Damly was prepped and ready, Dr. Leir made an incision in her left big toe. It took him almost an hour to find the object. When he located and touched the object with his probe, Ms. Damly spasmed, almost jerking her foot off the table. Dr. Leir found this surprising, yet hypnosis is an unreliable method of anesthesia (which is why hospitals use drugs). After an hour, the local was probably wearing off. Dr. Leir seems to think Ms. Damly's sensitivity to his probing was preternatural."
o.k.
if this thing
this thing
this thing
up my nose
this thing
they tried
to warn me about
the last time
I was in the hospital
the reason they
could only
put the oxygen tube
in one nostril
well promise me
if this thing
if we think it might be
could be
some kind of
alien implant...
if it's up my nose
it could be directly attached to my brain
so please
please
knock me the fuck out
before you try to extract it

Daily Kos: The Katrina Aid That Dare Not Speak Its Name
"This morning at the clinic I was paged to the phone to take a call that meant bad news for any low-income woman in this very large state who needs an abortion. Because of the huge additional burdens on its resources since the first part of September, the Lilith Fund has been completely wiped out and will no longer be able to offer help to any woman in Texas for at least the next one to two months. Nothing like this has ever happened before, because the Lilith Fund is a well-managed and extremely responsible organization, but providing care for the women of Katrina has overwhelmed us all, funders and providers alike. Fafblog! the whole worlds only source for Fafblog.
"FB: I bet Superman could stop a hurricane.
GOD: He could not.
FB: Could too. He can spin the earth around so time goes backwards. A hurricane’s nothin for Superman.
GOD: Well, y'know, I can do plenty of stuff. I can turn women into salt. I can make loaves and fishes - loaves and fishes like you wouldn't believe.
FB: Are you worried about the Draft Superman movement?
GOD: The what? There's no Draft Superman movement.
FB: Sure there is. They got like a blog an everything.
GOD: Huh.
FB: So did you ever tell the president to do anything about Valerie Plame? Cause I hear you got subpoenaed to testify in front a the grand jury.
GOD: I won't answer that without the advice of my attorney. Look, there's a ton of inconsistencies in the Superman gospels, ever notice that? One day he's got a fortress of solitude and a bottle city of Kandor and the next day he doesn't. Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?
FB: Pretty much everybody thinks you gotta resign if they indict. Does the line of succession make Jesus the Acting God then or does the Vice-God take over?
GOD: I mean, people aren't gonna pray to Superman! You can kill the guy with a freaking rock!
FB: It's been great to have you here, God! Stop by anytime."

Literature 2005 - Pinter wins Nobel - File Under: I'll drink to that!
Pinter restored theatre to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of each other and pretence crumbles. With a minimum of plot, drama emerges from the power struggle and hide-and-seek of interlocution. Pinter's drama was first perceived as a variation of absurd theatre, but has later more aptly been characterised as "comedy of menace", a genre where the writer allows us to eavesdrop on the play of domination and submission hidden in the most mundane of conversations. In a typical Pinter play, we meet people defending themselves against intrusion or their own impulses by entrenching themselves in a reduced and controlled existence. Another principal theme is the volatility and elusiveness of the past.

We made a movie! and I didn't even have to take my clothes off this time!
| BRAZOSPORT LI'L PLAYERS PRESENT WORLD PREMIERE OF MACBETH
|
(HOUSTON) September 28, 2005 . . . Experimental theatre troupe The Brazosport L'il Players (BLP) will present its movie version of Shakespeare's classic play Macbeth at the Axiom, located at 2524 McKinney, on Saturday, October 15, with showings at 9 and 11 p.m. The price of admission is $5.
"Sure, we made a few changes," says Paul Locklear, who wrote the script and directed the approximately 50-minute-long movie. "We had to, cause we didn't want to bore the audience to death with all that Shakespeare business."
Locklear admits that the script follows the basic plotline of Shakespeare's classic tale of greed and tragedy, but with a few changes. "We wanted to place it in a setting that our limited fan base could relate to, so Macbeth works at the Wal-Mart in Brazosport."
Walt Zipprian, a Houston area theatre veteran who grew up in Brazosport, plays the title role. "This role is perfect for me. If I hadn't left town when I did I'd probably really be working at the Wal-Mart in Brazosport and plotting my pathway to the top."
Those in search of production values won't find any here; BLP made Macbeth for a little over $200. "Everyone worked for free and the only expenses were for digital videotapes, food and beer for a couple of scenes," says Locklear. "It took us a year to finish it though. I have the good fortune to know a lot of performers, but the down side of that is that because they are performers, they would go off into rehearsals for a show and sometimes we had to wait long periods before they were free to finish. Later when you're trying to sort through everything and remember how things are supposed to go together, it helps to have a boy genius in your camp."
Locklear is referring to Joe Folladori who served as director of photography and editor for the movie.
"Joe saved our butts," says Locklear. "I'm technologically challenged, and Joe just swooped in and took care of all at, which was a great weight off my shoulders."
Zipprian heads a cast that includes BLP regulars Kelly Manison as Lady Macbeth, Mike Switzer as Banquo, and Noel Bowers as Macduff, with cameo appearances by the Leopard Boy and Batman and fast-rising Houston-based classical music combo Two Star Symphony, who appear as the witches.
BLP was launched in 2002 when the troupe formed to present a 10-minute scene from the Glass Menagerie for the Slump Theatre fundraiser. They have gone on to perform at fundraisers for Mildred's Umbrella Theatre, dos chicas theatre commune and Theatre Illuminata, and appeared as featured performers in Jack Babylon's Cabaret. They performed the original piece Voices of America as part of Diverseworks Footfalls series and presented their first full-length play 32 Short Stories About Brazosport at the Axiom in January of 2005. The troupe's series of short customized movies include; Day in the Life of Two-Star; Actorman: Day in the Life of Jmiller; Thomas Goes to Brazil and Tamalalia 11.
For reservations or further information call the BLP Hotline at (713) 869-2294.

Warrenellis.com John Peel Day
"October 13 is John Peel Day."
I'll go ahead and celebrate ahead of time...
tonight at the Gang of Four show.
The Globe and Mail: The world according to Kurt
"But life is a series of cosmic disappointments and absurdities, which Vonnegut knows from first-hand experience. He saw his father's dreams of becoming a great architect foiled by fate and the Depression. His mother, who suffered from her own depression, killed herself on Mother's Day in 1944, when he was only 21. Nine months later, as a prisoner of war in Germany, he witnessed the firebombing of Dresden, which he later immortalized in Slaughterhouse-Five. His older sister Alice died of cancer at age 41, within 24 hours of her husband being killed in a train crash, leaving Vonnegut and his wife to adopt three of their children. After his son went off to British Columbia during the Vietnam War to start a commune, Mark went crazy and Vonnegut had to retrieve him and place him in an institution (which thankfully cured him). One of his daughters was briefly married to Geraldo Rivera. In the mid-1980s, Vonnegut himself attempted suicide, but failed. Who wouldn't see the world as a cosmic joke?"
I've loved Vonnegut longer than any other writer.
I can still go back and read the first things I ever read of his and be filled with that same wonderful combination of joy and despair.

Government Keystroke Loggers Hard-Wired Into All New Laptop Computers!:

Alternative Tentacles - Bands
I love all of you,
but tonight I'll be at Rudyard's...
"The Dicks, a Commie Faggot Band, emerged during the halcyon days of Austin, Texas punk. The scene centered around the local dive bar Raul's frequented by local freaks, artists, and soon-to-be punk rockers. The band was the creation of Gary Floyd, a 26 year old from Palestine, Texas who had been a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War and was openly, flamboyantly gay."
I just played...

HoustonChronicle.com - Review: Bog of Cats demands attention
"Other players are variable"
HEY!!! THAT'S ME!!!
haha...
anyway, Everett gave us a positive review, and so did Walt...
what else ya want?
Here's the real highlight from the Chronicle review:
Mildred's Umbrella's Houston premiere is a rough-hewn, no-frills rendition, never as atmospheric nor tightly knit as it might be. Yet director Randy Symank and his cast capture the play's intensity and willful eccentricity, rising to its peaks of bleak humor, fierce confrontation and desperate lamentation.
Most crucially, Michelle Edwards anchors the production with her very strong performance in the marathon role of Hester. She's a maelstrom of bitterness, rage and despair, with an occasional calm of quiet desolation.
Michelle rocks!
It's true.

Body and Soul: More on Orleans Parish Prison
During Katrina I wondered what they had done about the jails and prisons in the area...
well, it turns out not much...
"We had no phone lines, no electricity," she said. "There was raw gas in the water ... If it wasn't for the deputies, a lot of people would have died."
She believes many drowned anyway, including inmates housed on the first floor of the Templeman 3 building, where Barnes said that in the chaos, some inmates may have remained locked inside.
Stay Free! Daily: Medication vs. Meditation
"I lay awake in bed at night. My mind wanders, sometimes for hours, and I don't sleep. I think about what happened that day, what I will do tomorrow, the past. Sometimes my mind just runs full speed going nowhere, but more often it's helpful (the concept for my last gallery show came to me just as I was going to sleep). In fact, I find these times are when I am at my most creative.
Finally, there's a drug to make this go away. I learned about it last night on TV. It's called Lunestra. It's touted as a prescription sleep aid for people with 'restless minds.' "
Hmmm....
maybe Tom Cruise is onto something.
"Restless mind" is a gift and a curse and wouldn't want a "cure"
so much as just an occasional nap.

DeLay Faces New Charges in Texas
"AUSTIN, Texas -- A Texas grand jury indicted Rep. Tom DeLay on a new charge of money laundering Monday, less than a week after another grand jury leveled a conspiracy charge that forced DeLay to temporarily step down as House majority leader."
I'll drink to that.
. . . Copyfight . Music (Download) Money Muddle . . File Under: Some of your friends are probably already this fucked.
"Also, 'an artist needs to sell in excess of 1.5m units before they can show a profit.' Well, let's see. Who was it put the artists into this forced indentiture where they have to pay up front for production time, tour costs, etc? That would once again be the Cartel. Last time I looked, iTunes wasn't dictating the terms of artists' contracts."
This seems like a fine time to link to Albini's - The Problem With Music

Talking Points Memo: by Joshua Micah Marshall: September 25, 2005 - October 01, 2005 Archives
"Just to refresh everyone's memory about what happened last week, three reputed mob soldiers were arrested in Florida for the February 2001 gangland-style murder of Gus Boulis, founder and one-time owner of Sun Cruz, the Florida casino boat line. Jack Abramoff and Adam Kidan muscled Boulis into selling them Sun Cruz. And it is for fraud in that acquisition that both were indicted last month.
That's all known."
As usual Marshall's on top of this stuff.
We've got right wing mobsters running the country.
That should scare you.

so I'll get to see some Mee at least.

GREAT stuff for actors, designers, everybody
to really sink their teeth into,
get their head around, etc.
Exactly the kind of stuff I LOVE to work on

I'll see Full Circle multiple times,
and maybe I'll even try to get together
a road trip together for Big Love...
it'd be worth it.

Eschaton - Delay Indicted
"A Travis County grand jury today indicted U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on one count of criminal conspiracy, jeopardizing the Sugar Land Republican's leadership role as the second most powerful Texan in Washington, D.C.
The charge, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years incarceration, stems from his role with his political committee, Texans for a Republican Majority, a now-defunct organization that already had been indicted on charges of illegally using corporate money during the 2002 legislative elections."

Rita?
it was back on by the time my roommate got up around 8am...
I only know we lost it cause my fridge was less than freezing this morning,
and my TV was off...
a few limbs in the yard, but no real damage anywhere that I can see...
Now if I can just find somewhere to eat lunch...
haha...
pretty sure everything is closed still,
although there's really no reason anyplace
that has power shouldn't be rocking and rolling
at this point...

so...
drinking tequila,
and listening to music,
and the wind,
and I must say,
"It's great."
hope your night
is as good as mine.
a little more low key
than I though it might've been,
but nice...
real nice.
well...
the "official" pronouncement is that Rita'll hit closer to the LA/TX border,
but Dr. Neil is still talking about a possible
direct hit to Galveston.
We should start seeing rain and tropical storm level winds in the next few hours...
I know several people who tried to leave yesterday only to turn around...
those who did get out spent a lot of time in their cars...
stories of crossing 3 miles in 4 hours or 6 miles in 45 minutes...
One friend nearly passed out in her car,
got rearended, eventually pulled over,
got herself and her 4 cats cooled down,
and drank some ice water provided by a friendly local merchant,
and then turned around and went home.
Another left last night (talked to her as I was biking to Rudyard's...
bars are the only things open...Rudz, Poison Girl, #"s, and Notsuoh were up and running last night...) She said there was no traffic all the way to intercontinental and she wasn't worried. Talked to her later - when she hit 1960 it came to a DEAD standstill, and after an hour or so of that, she turned around and came home.
Lots of folks I know are staying, and most of them were at Rudyard's drinking last night...
I've got some neighbors I know across the street, and down the street that are riding it out here in the neighborhood.
so, I'm just sitting here waiting, freezing water, and filling tubs...
got my canned goods and my candles...
ahhh, good times.
I'll try to update again before I lose my connection or power...
Thursday, September 22, 2005
looks like
my family left last night while I was at rehearsal,
and my other possible ride out has decided to stay.
Still have a few options for getting a little further into the city...
we'll see.
Tuesday, September 20, 2005
Monday, September 19, 2005
there's just something
around this city
after every one else

or before they've gotten up...

coffee
and water
running underground,
fresh bread
and circles
in the
middle of the street

Daily Kos: Lights in New Orleans. For Bush.
"... the power came back on for blocks on end. Kevin Tibbles was positively jubilant on the live update edition of Nightly News that we fed to the West Coast. The mini-mart, long ago cleaned out by looters, was nonetheless bathed in light, including the empty, roped-off gas pumps. The motorcade route through the district was partially lit no more than 30 minutes before POTUS drove through. And yet last night, no more than an hour after the President departed, the lights went out. "
wtf? If they don't want us to assume the worst they better explain this one.

What we dug about Maynard - Los Angeles Times
"But the difference between Maynard's brand of slacker — and with his famous aversion to work, he was certainly among the first of the slackers — and today's acne-ridden layabout is that Maynard, for all his silliness, was inherently wise. His sense of justice arose directly out of his cultural interests, not in spite of them. His character was the result of what he dug rather than what he didn't dig. His love of Thelonious Monk didn't preclude his friendship with the straight-laced Dobie. A hippie, with all of his circumscribed cultural baggage, would probably have dismissed Dobie as an incorrigible square. Maynard was nuanced enough to have friends on both sides of the radio dial."

The Cure
Depeche Mode
Howard Jones
Adam Ant
Paul Young
Dee-Lite (w/the Happy Mondays)
The Judy's
Cheap Trick
I miss McFey and the other original mascots that I barely remember...
I haven't gone in a few summers because, well, I'm old, and I figured it'd always be there...
that's what I get for figurin', I reckon.
anyway,
what a bummer.
so...
revising, drunk, as I type...
A: I feel a bit like a predator tonight.
Do you feel even a bit like prey?
B: I do not.
A: Fair enough.
But you must recognize
that just because
you don't
feel like prey
doesn't mean
you're not.
Maybe not mine,
but these woods
are full of wolves.
full of them.
B: And how do you know
I'm not one?
A: Maybe you are. Maybe you are.
Still, a she-wolf at best...
so, there's that bit of rubbish...
what else?
gave some folks who were walking along taft a ride to their
hotel on alabama and dowling on the way home from the medicine show tonight...
a very nice woman in a wheelchair and her man...
he repeatedly told me not to stop for anybody between there
and my house...
I assured him I lived around there and would be o.k....
things are rough all over...
still incredibly unmotivated on the job search front...
been spending my t10 money on whiskey, women, and what not...
it's going pretty far
so far
and so far
so good...
so good...
really is.
I bitch a lot.
A LOT.
(if you know me
you can back me up
on this one)
but things could be worse,
in fact,
they probably are.
I'll realize it
in ten minutes
or
in the morning.
Rehearsals for "By the Bog of Cats" are going well...
I just got another small part handed to me a few days ago,
so I've got a little more blocking, and a few more lines to learn...
and I get to do a little dancing again, which is good...
so, i'm about sobered up
enough to get some sleep
so I reckon I will
and I'll see you when
I see you, and I reckon
you'll see me too...
till then,
I'll say only this,
"Buy me a drink!"

This may be my new 2nd favorite webcomic.
My favorite of course remaining Achewood.

so...
I'm in rehearsals for the next Mildred's Umbrella show
and the director wanted me to get rid of my facial hair...
I could've waited but I figured I'd let the rest of the cast
get used to seeing me as I would look in the show...
I shave off the goatee/beard a couple of times a year usually,
but I can not, literally can not remember the last time I didn't
have sideburns...
this feels very weird...
hmm...
Go see The Rx Medicine Show at Cosmo's on Thursdays...
Same great music you can hear at Helios on Mondays
without all the smoke and sweaty young people...
just in case you have something against sweaty young people.
I went last Thursday and had a great time.
Also saw a show at Barnevelder last night...
Fallen Sindhur
really cool stuff...
mix of classical indian, modern, ballet, etc...
They used the music of Jason Moran and Tabla Beat Science...
I dug the TBS but not so much the Moran stuff.
The jazz made it hard to focus on the dance for me,
not entirely sure why...
Tabla Beat Science however worked perfectly...
Somehow it actually focussed me.
Anyway, it's a cool show and you should check it out.
there were a few other misc. tidbits I was gonna post about
but now I'll be damned if I remember what they were.

Police in Suburbs Blocked Evacuees, Witnesses Report - New York Times
Police agencies to the south of New Orleans were so fearful of the crowds trying to leave the city after Hurricane Katrina that they sealed a crucial bridge over the Mississippi River and turned back hundreds of desperate evacuees, two paramedics who were in the crowd said.

my ego
free reign.
Every missed opportunity

I can do anything.
Fuck you.
I can.

I'm working towards it

I am an impatient bastard.

no faith

right now,
you're right,
it is
none of your business,

drinking too much,

I have no control.
I'm letting my ego

HoustonSoReal: Well, Maybe this is why more rappers don't speak out on the issues... They Want Scion Money!
"Bavu Blakes received an affidavit stating that he was in the Top Ten – chosen by DJ Premier, Green Lantern and Sean Cane, and that voting would commence, online, Monday August 29th on the website www.scionnextup.com.
Today, he received a call, again from Jay Cortez, stating that he had been removed from the contest because of the political lyrics in his song “Black Gold.” The lyrics in question are:
1. 'Now Bush and bin Laden got so much they rotten'
2. 'Texas home of the real death row'
3. 'What'd we really go to Iraq fo?'"

Subdivided We Stand: I Read Leviticus So You Don't Have To
"But hey -- who has time to sit around and read Leviticus these days?
That's where I come in. I want to help you, my red state friends, in your mission of becoming even more judgemental. So from time to time over the next few weeks, I'm going to read and summarize Leviticus for you. By the end of all this, you'll know just who's an abomination, who you should smite, who's unclean, etc. Think of all the new folks you'll be able to seethe about!"

Mike Sterling's Progressive Ruin
"'Shame about what happened to Wonder Woman's team,' Spider-Man said sadly. The offices of the Daily Planet, usually bustling with busy reporters, was now a makeshift command center in the battle against the unknown forces that threatened the planet.
'There will be time to mourn later,' noted Shrinking Violet. 'We must think of something to do right now.'
'What she said,' chimed in Kojak. 'Supes and that other guy can only hold out for so long. We're licked if we can't come up with a pl....'
Suddenly a door slammed open, startling everyone. The Black Knight drew his sword. Frodo instinctively pawed for his ring, only to be stopped by Samwise. Jesus reached for his lightsaber.
A figure stood in the doorway, tall with flowing hair, features obscured by shadow.
Firestorm whispered 'that...that can't be who I think it is, can it? I thought he was just a myth!'
'Oh, I'm much more than a myth,' said the mysterious figure. 'I'm also...your only hope.'"
and it get's funnier.

AP Wire | 09/06/2005 | Bob Denver, TV's Gilligan, dead at 70
"As Krebs, Denver's only desire was to play the bongos and hang out at coffee houses, and he would shriek every time the word 'work' was mentioned."
Discovering Maynard G. Krebs on The Many Love of Dobie Gillis on Nick at Nite was like discovering my archetype, or a fun house mirror, or something...
While he was not the first slacker, and only a parody of a beat, he stands as a shining example to all of us who only want to play bongos and hang out at coffee houses,
and grow goatees,
and not work.
It wasn't too long ago he was busted for marijuana possession (Denver, not Krebs)...
I light this one for you Maynard,
you will be missed.

Berlin's a pretty tolerant town, but whenever I wear my white Moroccan robe (and the weather this week has been Moroccan in Berlin) I get the strangest reactions. Something doesn't compute. The wild looks you see here all tend to follow fairly rigid patterns. The industrial goths wear long black leather skirts, for instance, but you can always tell what tribe they're part of. But a white man dressed as a Muslim... what tribe is that? Whose side is he on? What's he playing at? Is this the start of some trend we'd have to call something like "Fashion Muslim"?
While I'm much more of a "nothing's gonna change my clothes ever anymore" kinda guy now I still appreciate fashion freaks...
Back in Jr. High I was all about Hawaiian shirts, and then in High School I was some silly new wave/goth/punk/poseur...
Sophomore year I was easily they gayest little straight boy.
Hair permed in the front.
A broach.
Polo shirt.
Trench coat.
Beatle boots.
Plaid pants.
Now I'm mostly a jeans and t-shirt guy.
Cowboy boots.
Occasionally Overalls...
although a nice white robe does sound comfy.

New Orleans Independent Media Center
go here for updates on New Orleans.
Fw: [CTRL] People STILL dying trapped in New Orleans
From the livejournal blog of someone working inside a datacenter still operational in downtown New Orleans :
URGENT ASSISTANCE NEEDED.
First of all, many thanks to the kind and courageous folks currently staffing Outpost Crystal. Their compassion and honesty are unparalleled.
I am writing this to describe a horrific situation in NOLA that few are aware of, and those who are aware are doing little or nothing. As many of you have likely observed, the national media outlets are suggesting that hurricane relief is finally leading to vast improvements with each hour that passes. Food and water are being delivered, power restored, levees repaired, water drainage plans developed, and those still living successfully evacuated. Many are reporting that the final areas are being checked for survivors, as well as those who have passed at the hands of Katrina (and more often, neglect). Unfortunately, this is not the case. As demonstrated on nola.com's blog section, many individuals know the exact locations and WORKING telephone numbers of family members, most of whom are elderly, sickly, starving, and in serious need of medical attention. When able to get through on emergency telephone numbers, a feat not to be taken lightly, they are dismissed or told that dispatch would be sent immediately, yet no one has come, even though calls have been placed for days. Many do not require full evacuation, but basic medical attention and/or supplies. Many are completely immobile, and unable to access the limited relief sites or food drops. I spoke to one such individual, Ms. Lee Livermore, who was still trapped in her home earlier this evening (around 6:00pm EST).
Her nephew, living in Michigan, explained to me that she is diabetic, has difficulty moving, and he has been in contact with the coast guard, emergency services, and even the governor's office, yet nothing is being done. Stranded on a 3rd floor apartment, with little food, no sweets, and low blood sugar, her outlook is not promising. This is just one case out of hundreds, probably thousands. Incredibly, much of this information is available through nola.com, a resource many of the media are utilizing, yet remains unreported. The television broadcasts refer to none of this, simply stressing the importance of financial contributions, encouraging National Guard membership for potential volunteers, and emphasizing the positive direction the situation is headed.
For more information on these people who are stranded and requiring immediate assistance, please visit
http://www.nola.com/weblogs/nola/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_nolaview/archives/2005_09.html
Note: specific contact information and locations ARE provided
Some of these people, primarily those in high profile areas, such as universities and hospitals, have since been rescued. Others, however, are being ignored, even though their situation and status is easily discernable and their telephone contacts are reliable and consistent.

Relaxed, Calm, Rampage!!!
"At the end of the day, Superman has to go sell Underoos and Batman gets his head planted on the top of a Pez dispenser. It is difficult to even begin to explain the ways in which this fundamental truth necessarily dominates and regulates character and story development. No one ever mentions it, but it is the financial driving force of the industry and ultimately influences every decision ever made about a superhero comic book. The next time you catch yourself balling your fists in frustration over a story line and yelling 'Why don’t they just – ' I can almost guarantee you that the answer is 'toothpaste.''"
Televangelist Jack Van Impe called Robertson "a ... [Media Matters]
I love Jack Van Impe.
Bible Prophecy Today is hands down my favorite religious TV show.
Is anyone torrenting any of the good televangelicals?
I even have Van Impe's 1972 (?) record -
MARKED FOR DEATH:
Can America Survive?
I assumed I'd be able to find a description of this classic,
but no luck...
so let's just say he talks at length about the MC5, The White Panther Party, and Dope, Guns and Fornicating in the Streets...
It's a classic.

REAL ART (and politics and culture)
"Never Enough
Another aspect of how our lifestyle tends to erode our culture is that people are trying extremely hard to keep up -- not only with their neighbors, but also just the two jobs they have.
There's an amazing outbreak of amphetamines across the country that you've probably heard of. It's rampant across the country now. Everybody talks about marijuana being the problem. That's not the problem -- it's individuals who are essentially hijacking their pleasure centers, trying to stay awake."
this is mostly just a reminder to go visit Real Art regular like...
Ron's running from the storm, and I'd say he's in my prayers,
but neither of us believe in that stuff,
so I'll just use my super powers I've gained
by clearing my body of thetans to keep him and his safe,
or maybe I'll light a candle...
"We've got to face the fact that the accumlation of things is simply not a desirable goal: getting off of the parental teat years ago and realizing that I was poor was probably one of the best things that's ever happened to me--once I could no longer afford them, I realized that I didn't really care about all the crap I had been buying at the mall for years on my folks' credit card. Happiness is about family, community, and friends, and you just can't buy stuff like that."
Ron...
good luck, stay safe, etc...
